TOUR 1: Jamica Plain New Economy Transition (JP NET) Walking Tour
Meet outside the Stony Brook T station (On the Orange line; 100 Boylston Street at 180 Lamartine Street, Jamaica Plain).
Come learn more about how Jamaica Plain is navigating the transition to a New Economy! JP is home to the largest Latino business district in New England and located along the Emerald Necklace system of waterways and parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. In this 90-minute tour you will learn about the history of JP, from the early days of settlement to the 21st century; visit some of the projects that make Jamaica Plain one of the region's most interesting and vibrant hubs of new economy activity; and find out more about what JP NET and others are doing to ensure that our neighborhood thrives as we pioneer new models of sustainable livelihoods.
The tour will be led by Samantha Wechsler, Associate Director, and Carlos Espinoza-Toro, Director of Community Organizing, both of the Program on Inequality and the Common Good of the Institute for Policy Studies.
TOUR 2: Tour of Dudley neighborhood with Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (Limit 30 people)

The Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative is a nonprofit community-based planning and organizing entity rooted in the Roxbury/North Dorchester neighborhoods of Boston. It was formed in 1984 when residents of the Dudley Street area came together to revive their neighborhood that was devastated by arson, disinvestment, neglect and redlining practices, and to protect it from outside speculators. 30 years later DSNI has grown into a collaborative effort of over 3,000 residents, businesses, nonprofits, and religious institutions committed to revitalizing this culturally diverse neighborhood of 24,000 people and maintaining its character and affordability. DSNI is the only community-based nonprofit which has been granted eminent domain authority over abandoned land within its boundaries and also operates a community land trust that includes 225 affordable homes, a greenhouse, urban farm, and other amenities.
Join Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI) for a tour of the Dudley neighborhood, to learn the history and current status DSNI's community organizing efforts to ensure development without displacement and community control of land. The tour will be led by Harry Smith, DSNI's Director of Sustainable Economic Development and will include a tour of community land trust properties as well as discussion of current initiatives to promote community-based economic development strategies.
