This workshop offers an introduction to the American Labor Movement with a focus on how to talk with different unions about different issues, and how New Economy thinking is received within organized labor. Drawing on both the extensive experience of the Labor Network for Sustainability and our recently completed 'Labor Landscape Analysis' we will explain the structure, function, and culture of today's union movement. We will also touch on the history of the movement, and its historical relationship to American Environmentalism, as that history significantly shapes current conversations around building the New Economy. Specific emphasis will be placed on developing engagement strategies and talking points that build common ground and create opportunities for collective impact.
